We also wanted to emphasize that this facility has received near flawless health inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A+ in this category. Perhaps the most important factor we look at in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this category typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

We also wanted to note the fact that this nursing home received a strong score of A in our long-term care category. For prospective patients seeking a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. This nursing home's vaccination records were not as favorable as its nursing hours. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to just 85.71429 percent of its residents. We would like to see some improvement herein this statistic next year. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we hoped for, we were pleased to find place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Adding to its profile, this facility also earned a grade of B+ for its nursing rating. This is a well above average score in this category. Our nursing score assesses quite a few factors, however, the main consideration is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility provided 3.9 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is an impressive figure which typically leads to higher quality care. Finally, this facility was also above average in each of the major quality measures we assessed in this category. It performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

The final area we assessed proved to be this facility's worst category. Nevertheless, even in its worst category we still awarded it a respectable grade of B- in our short-term care category. In calculating our short-term care scores, we look at a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. This category is typically a meaningful measure of the facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last statistic we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. This nursing home performed better in this statistic. This place performed better than most facilities in this area with 52.3 percent of its residents returning home. With most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-term residents are able to return home.
