Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

While this nursing home's overall grade was decent, it really excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Inspection scores are tied to items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that excel in this area tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This place was assessed 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies to pose an immediate threat to resident health or safety. A few minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Additionally, we gave this nursing home a B+ in our long-term care category. This is one of our more impressive scores. When nursing homes receive this kind of grade in this category it is usually a good sign for resident care and indicates that the place is well-staffed with nurses and aids. After assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents out of the hospital. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

We awarded this facility a grade of just D for our short-term care rating. This is not a score to write home about. With our short-term care category, we seek to create a meaningful gauge for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we look at a nursing home's scope of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. With a score this poor in this area, we were not shocked to find that this nursing home was well below average in many staffing areas we focus on. The facility supplied significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the number of patients that ultimately returned home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

This nursing home's weakest area was nursing, which is the final category we looked at. For this category, we gave this facility a D. When determining our nursing scores, we analyze both nursing hours and the skill levels of those nurses. This particular facility offered a meager 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This figure is significantly below average. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this nursing home also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percentage of residents sustaining major falls and pressure ulcers. This place had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average facility. This could be a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, these statistics hurt this facility's nursing grade quite a bit.
