Facility Inspections
The main reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it received an excellent inspection grade. Its inspection grade was far superior to its overall grade. In our inspections category, we gave it a grade of A. Inspection scores are tied to many items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this category have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were serious based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.
Long-term Care Quality
An additional strength of this nursing home is its high-end grade in long-term care. We awarded it one of our most impressive scores in that area, with a score of A-. Nursing homes that excel in this category tend to provide residents with better supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is better than the vast majority of nursing homes. The last datapoint we assessed is its hospitalization rate. Here we found that this place had 2.3 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
Nurse Quality
Turning to another strength for this facility, it also received an elite nursing score. We gave this facility an D. Our nursing grade weighs quite a few factors, but the main one is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home provides 3.8 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is slightly below the national average. On top of its weak nursing hour totals, this place received poor scores in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing scores. We found that a higher percentage of this place's patients experienced falls which led to serious injury. We believe that many falls could likely be prevented with better nursing care. This metric contributed to this nursing home receiving a terrible nursing score.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility's worst category was short-term care, which is the final area we scored. Sadly, it received an abysmal F for this area. Even with some solid scores in other areas, this grade is still concerning so we wanted to draw your attention to it. In our short-term care rating, we endeavor to craft a valuable gauge for rehabilitation. In this process, we analyze the nursing home's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. Considering its grade in this area, we were not stunned to discover that this nursing home is well below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its residents based on the data we assessed. Frankly, this was what we expected to find. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 34.8 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
