In addition to being an elite nursing home overall, this facility also performed well in our inspections category, where it received an A+. Very few facilities performed as well in this area. Inspection ratings are based on pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this area tend to have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This place was assessed 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that CMS didn't deem any of the deficiencies to be an immediate risk to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing score. In that area, we awarded this nursing home an A+. The nursing score includes several factors. The most important variable is the quantity of hours nurses spent with residents. This place provided 4.8 hours of nursing care per resident each day, which is among the higher totals in the country. A significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most skilled levels of nurses. We are really impressed by these figures. On top of providing impressive levels of nursing care, this facility also performed well in several of the quality measures we looked at. In terms of the percentage of its residents suffering falls leading to major injury, this facility performed as well as any nursing home the nation.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home also was superb in the area of short-term care, where we awarded it a score of A. Few facilities performed better in this area. Short-term care grades are based on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This means a vast scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, not to mention other forms of therapy. This nursing home provides more services with physical therapists and registered nurses than most nursing homes we looked at. This is usually a favorable sign. The last metric we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that it fared better than most nursing homes in this area with 50.2 percent of its patients returning home. With most nursing homes, fewer than half of their short-stay residents are able to return home.
Long-term Care Quality
In the final category, this facility also was awarded an excellent long-term care rating, with a B+. This completed an elite report card. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in this category tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure patients are kept in good health. After assessing the impressive nursing hours and other staffing provided by this facility, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 99.14286 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is significantly higher than most nursing homes. This combination proved to be successful as this nursing home was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.14 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
