Registered Staff Hours
Short-term Care Quality
Even though we were not high on this nursing home overall, we awarded it a B for our short-term care rating. Short-term care grades are commonly used to score a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to offer good rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to feature higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other types of therapists. It doesn't look like this nursing home submitted information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 5.9 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
Facility Inspections
We were also pleasantly surprised to award this facility a relatively favorable government inspection rating as well. We awarded it a B- in this category, which easily topped its overall score. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this place had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This tells you the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality
We also awarded this facility a solid grade in the area of long-term care, where it received a grade of C. Our long-term care grade assesses a facility's personal care rather than the skilled nursing and healthcare services that are critical to a rehabilitation facility. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 86.85801 percent of its patients. This is many points lower than average. On a more positive note, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Nurse Quality
The next area we assessed is nursing. This nursing home was given an abysmal grade of F in this area. Our nursing grade analyzes the facility's level of nurse staffing. We look at both the levels of training of the nurses as well as the number of hours spent with residents. With only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were well below the national average. To pair with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this nursing home also did not fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of patients sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This nursing home had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average facility.
