Facility Inspections
A
Historical
While this nursing home's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we gave it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Inspection ratings are based on pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these reports. Most importantly, you should avoid facilities that have severe deficiencies linked to endangerment of patients. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies aren't necessarily the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
D
Historical
Sadly, this nursing home's next most favorable category is short-term care. However, with a D in this area, it still fared relatively badly. Short-term care grades are often employed to gauge a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation. In order to provide high-end rehabilitation services, facilities generally must provide higher levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. With a grade this poor in this area, we weren't stunned to discover that this nursing home was below average in multiple staffing areas we focus on. The nursing home offered far fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most nursing homes. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. We found that just 47.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was below the national average.

Long-term Care Quality
F
Historical
Another issue is the F this nursing home received in the area of long-term care. If you are looking for anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each nursing home's long-term care ratings. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 95.757576 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is higher than the majority of nursing homes. To our surprise, this nursing home also wasn't as bad as we expected at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Although it had 2.97 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic was not bad since it had more complicated patients.
Nurse Quality
F
Historical
The final area we analyzed was nursing, in which this facility received a poor score in this category as well. Sadly, it received an abysmal F for this category, which is obviously a major concern. When determining a facility's nursing rating, we weigh the amount of time nurses are seeing residents and the level of skill of the nurses. This nursing home offered only 2.7 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is an alarmingly low total. In addition to its weak nursing hours, this facility received poor scores in some of the quality-based metrics we considered in calculating our nursing scores. We found that more of this nursing home's patients experienced falls leading to major injury. We believe that many falls could be avoided with better nursing care. This metric contributed to this nursing home receiving a terrible nursing grade.
