Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition to a phenomenal overall grade, this facility also received A+ nursing grade. We looked at the skill-level of nurses at the facility, in addition to the quantity of time those nurses were with residents, in calculating our grade in this area. This nursing home boasts a really impressive 6.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily, of which a significant percentage of those hours were provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly skilled levels of nurses. This is among the better totals of nursing hours we were able to find. In addition to providing impressive levels of nursing care, this place also excelled in the quality-based metrics we looked at. It performed as well as any nursing home in the state in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This facility also was dominant in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of A. Not many facilities received a better grade in this category. When facilities receive this kind of score in long-term care it is usually a good sign for patient care and suggests that the nursing home is well-staffed with nurses and aids. In addition to providing elite levels of nursing care and other staffing, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 98.591545 percent of its residents. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. This combination proved to be effective as this place also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.65 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Building on its first-rate profile, this facility also was given a dominant short-term care score, with a score of A. Our short-term care grades are thought to be more meaningful for those in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally utilizes more highly-skilled nursing services. This means not only nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. This nursing home excelled at the highest level in the two key staffing areas we assessed. The facility supplied about 50% more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the typical facility. This is a great sign. Lastly, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of facilities in the country with 56.3 percent of its patients returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most nursing homes.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B

In the final category we assessed, this nursing home earned a good grade in the area of inspections as well. In fact, we gave it a B for that category. This nursing home didn't have any major weaknesses. These inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
