Short-term Care Quality
While this place's overall grade was horrible, it performed well in the area of short-term care. We awarded it a grade of B for that area, which is one of our better scores. This is one of the only positive things we could find to say about this nursing home. In forming these short-term care scores, we assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The objective is to devise a measure for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. We found that 6 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
This facility didn't receive glowing inspections in recent years. We gave it a D for our inspections rating and that actually turned out to be its second best score. Inspection scores weigh several factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. This particular nursing home was assessed 3 deficiencies by CMS. The only favorable thing we found is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they posed a risk to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility also received 6 substantiated complaints in recent years. This is yet another bad sign.
Does this page answer your questions about Alpine Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center?
We gave this facility a grade of just D for our nursing rating. The nursing grade is based on a handful of components, however, the primary one is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This place averaged just 0.2 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is well below average. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in computing our nursing ratings. This facility performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these datapoints to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we assessed is long-term care. Sadly, it received an abysmal F in this category, which is a poor score. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids, as well as the levels of routine medical care available. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 91.30435 percent of its patients, which is somewhat lower than we expected. Surprisingly, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This was its best feature in this category.
