Registered Staff Hours
The primary reason this facility received a decent overall score is its impeccable government inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our better grades in that category, with an A. This is a notably better score than the facility's overall score, which was decent but certainly not elite. Inspection grades are tied to many datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that receive favorable grades in this category have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.
One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing grade. This proved to be its second best category grade. In that category, we gave this facility a grade of B. There are a host of factors included in this area. Many of the criteria reflect the quantity of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as employing a policy of moving a resident even once per day.

Short-term Care Quality
The next category we analyzed is short-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a decent grade of B-. In the area of short-term care, we strive to qualify measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Unfortunately, this nursing home was below average in terms of its number of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. The real question is whether this also impacted quality of care. The final statistic we looked at in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that just 5.7 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is below average.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we rated was long-term care. We gave it an abysmal F for this category, which is an abysmal score. This is clearly a significant concern. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in long-term care it typically means the nursing home did not perform well in our measures relating to resident care. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Candidly, we were a bit worried that this nursing home administered the vaccine to only 83.22147 percent of its residents. Surprisingly, this place actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best score in this category.
