Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition to earning a great overall rating, this nursing home excelled in our inspections category, which is based on the facility's recent inspection reports. In fact, we gave it a grade of A in that category. Inspection ratings weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher scores in this area usually have very few severe deficiencies. This nursing home received 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be severe. This means that the government inspectors didn't consider any of these deficiencies to be an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in the industry.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- in that category. Our nursing score is mostly tied to the nursing home's nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as having a protocol of turning residents at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Turning the page to our next area, we awarded this facility a grade of A- for its short-term care score. This is a very impressive grade. Our short-term care scores are important for individuals seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a broad range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, we were not able to locate registered nurse or physical therapy staffing data for this facility. The final measure we considered in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that 6 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The last area we scored is long-term care, in which this nursing home was given a B. While this turned out to be its worst category rating, this is nevertheless an impressive score. Facilities that do well in long-term care typically are well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to patients. One of the factors we considered in addition to nursing hours is vaccinations. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccination is a great way to avoid unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the elderly population. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
