Facility Inspections
This facility received a quality overall grade as described above, but we especially want to emphasize its excellent government inspections in recent years. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its report, none were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home was awarded strong scores in the area of long-term care as well. Indeed, it received one of our most superb scores in that area with a score of A. When facilities receive this type of grade in this category it is a good sign for patient care and suggests that the facility is well-staffed with nurses and aids. After looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Vaccines are vital to keeping patients healthy. The last statistic we looked at is its hospitalization rate. Here we found that this nursing home had 2.2 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
Short-term Care Quality
We also gave this facility a decent grade in the category of short-term care, with a grade of C. In determining our short-term care scores, we assess the nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. This category is often a fair assessment of a nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last statistic we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents that ultimately were able to return home from the facility. We found that just 44.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. This figure was below average.
Nurse Quality
This facility's worst category was nursing, which is the last area we analyzed. For this category, we gave this facility a D. Nursing scores are based in large part on nurse staffing levels. This particular nursing home provided 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is below average. Although this nursing home did not excel in the area of nursing hours, it actually surprised us in some of the quality-based metrics in the nursing category, such as avoiding serious falls. This nursing home was better than average in this datapoint, which was one redeeming quality we found in this category.
