Facility Inspections
Although we gave this nursing home a horrible overall score, we gave it an A- for our inspections score. This grade is far more impressive than the facility's overall grade. Inspection grades are tied to several items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important thing to look for on these reports. You should especially avoid facilities that have severe deficiencies linked to risks to resident well being. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Not having any deficiencies is this place's greatest strength.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing grade. This turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this facility an F. The nursing category assesses a handful of factors, many of which are based on levels of nurse staffing. With just 2.4 hours of nursing care per resident each day, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were well below the national average. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing grades. This nursing home performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
Long-term Care Quality
Tragically, we gave this facility an F for its long-term care score. When facilities receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means the nursing home did not perform well in our quality measures relating to patient care. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. We were concerned by the fact that this facility vaccinated a relatively low 90.11628 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this place was actually decent at limiting hospitalizations. While it had 2.31 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic was not bad due to it having some more complicated patients. This is its best feature in this category
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we looked at was short-term care, where this nursing home received a bottom of the barrel grade in this category also. It received an abysmal F in this category, which is definitely somewhat alarming. Our short-term care grades are vital for people requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates additional skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes a vast scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Based on its grade in this area, we were not surprised to learn that this place is well below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its residents based on the metrics we looked at. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients that who were able to eventually return home from this facility. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 24.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit off the national average.
