Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our long-term care rating. When nursing homes receive this kind of grade in long-term care it is usually a good sign for patient care and suggests that the place is well-staffed with nurses and aids. One of the datapoints we considered in addition to nursing hours is vaccinations. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 99.7555 percent of its patients. This is a reliable method to minimize unnecessary deaths and hospitalizations for the elderly population. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

To complement its dominant accomplishments in other areas, we gave this nursing home a grade of A for our short-term care rating. In computing these short-term care scores, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our goal is to devise a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last datapoint we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We found that 6.2 percent of this nursing home's patients were able to return home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

We awarded this facility an A- for our inspections rating. Our inspection scores are tied to datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that excel in this category tend to have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This nursing home was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none were considered severe. This tells you that CMS did not consider any of these deficiencies to create an immediate risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

Moving on to our last area, this facility received a very strong nursing rating. Although this isn't as elite as several of its other scores, this remains one of our stronger scores we offer. We weighed the skill-level of nurses at the nursing home, in addition to the quantity of hours the nurses worked with residents, in determining our score in this area. This nursing home averages 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of turning residents at least once a day.
