Facility Inspections
On top of faring well in its overall grade, this facility received a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, we gave it one of our best scores in that area with an A. Perhaps the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this area typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
We also would like to point out the fact that this facility was given a strong grade of A- in our long-term care category. When nursing homes receive this kind of grade in this category it is typically a good sign for patient care and suggests that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. After we finished looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 99.45652 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia is often a deadly ailment for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a nursing home does not leave this to chance. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality
Another one of this facility's impressive category grades came in the area of nursing care. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. When computing a facility's nursing rating, we look at the quantity of hours nurses are caring for patients and the level of skill of those nurses. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as having a system of moving a patient more frequently.
Short-term Care Quality
Switching gears to our last area, this nursing home was given an acceptable short-term care score. While this is not as strong as some of its other category grades, this is really not a bad grade. Our short-term care scores are presumably most critical for those in need of a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires higher levels of skilled nursing services. This includes not merely nursing services, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, it does not look like this facility submitted information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. The final item we looked at in this area is the percentage of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that just 4.4 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. This figure was below the national average.
