A grade of this caliber requires some solid marks. Based on our analysis, this nursing home ought to meet the needs of many people. Facility Inspections
While this facility earned a decent overall score, its inspections score is notably more impressive than its overall grade. Due to a strong government inspection report this year, it earned a strong score in that area with a B+. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection scores. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are relatively insignificant. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Based on this, we had favorable view of this nursing home's recent inspections.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home also received a strong nursing grade. In fact, we awarded it a grade of B+ in that category, which is one of our better scores. Nursing grades are mostly tied to a facility's nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 3.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by having a policy of turning patients at least once a day.
Short-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this facility only earned a grade of D for its short-term care rating, which is not a very good score. In our short-term care category, we attempt to craft a sound measure for rehabilitation. In this process, we look at the facility's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Based on its grade in this category, we weren't surprised to find that this place is well below average in terms of the quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the measures we assessed. Frankly, this was what we expected to find. The final metric we considered in this area is the percentage of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 37.5 percent of its patients returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we assessed is long-term care, which is a low point for this nursing home. We gave this facility a grade of just D in the area of long-term care. For patients seeking a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are an important measure. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 95.88608 percent of its residents, which is higher than most nursing homes. Surprisingly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.41 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Sadly, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
