Awards
Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
We also would like to emphasize that this nursing home excelled in our nursing grade. We awarded them an A+ in this area. Nursing grades are heavily correlated with levels of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as employing a protocol of moving residents even once per day.
Long-term Care Quality
We also wanted to draw your attention to the fact that this facility was given a dominant score of A in our long-term care category. When nursing homes receive this kind of grade in this category it is typically a good sign for patient care and indicates that the facility is well-staffed with nurses and aids. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents healthy. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Facility Inspections
We gave this nursing home an A for our inspections rating. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection scores. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are quite minor. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we rated was short-term care, where this nursing home received an A. This rounded out an elite report card. Only a select few nursing homes earned an A- or higher in every single category. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to qualify indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents that who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. We found that 5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
