Facility Inspections
In addition to faring well overall, this facility also received nearly flawless government inspections. Consequently, it received one of our best scores in that category with an A+. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Facilities with higher grades in this category most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe made us feel better about this inspection report.
Short-term Care Quality
Contributing to its fine profile, this facility also was given an excellent short-term care score, with a grade of A. In computing our short-term care ratings, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our goal is to devise a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of different nursing homes. This facility provides more services with physical therapists and registered nurses than most facilities we looked at. This is often a great sign. The final item we looked at in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. This nursing home was above average with 52.1 percent of its patients able to return home.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category. There are several criteria within this grade. Most of these criteria reflect the quantity of nurse staffing. This place boasts a really impressive 4.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis, of which a significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. In addition to offering impressive levels of care, this place also fared well in some of the quality measures we looked at. By way of illustration, in terms of the number of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, this place performed better than the national average. This is usually an indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented with better nursing care and a policy of regularly turning residents to prevent bed sores.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we graded was long-term care, where this nursing home was given a B+. This rounded out a very favorable report card. Not many nursing homes earned a B+ or higher in in each area we assessed. When facilities receive this kind of score in this category it is usually a good sign for patient care and suggests that the facility is well-staffed with nurses aids. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 96.79144 percent of its residents, which is higher than the average nursing home. The last statistic we looked at was the facility's hospitalization rate. Here we found that this place had 1.83 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is close to average in this area.
