Although we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it actually earned an impressive score when it came to nursing. We gave it a grade of B in this area. Our nursing rating looks at the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We factor in both the levels of training of the nurses and the amount of time spent with patients. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by having a system of turning a patient more often.

We gave this nursing home a grade of just D for our short-term care grade and that actually turned out to be its second most respectable category. Our short-term care ratings are based on the nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This includes a broad range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. With a grade this poor in this category, we weren't shocked to learn that this place was below average in multiple staffing figures we looked at. The facility provided substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other nursing homes. The last statistic we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 3.9 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor statistics sunk this nursing home's short-term care score.

Unfortunately, this facility didn't receive glowing inspections in recent years. We gave it a grade of just D for our inspections rating. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection scores. One critical factor is health deficiencies. We recommend you scrutinize the severity of those deficiencies. This facility had 5 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only favorable thing we found is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that indicate that they posed a risk to resident health or safety. Lastly, we also want to point out that this place was assessed large government fines in recent years of more than $100,000. This often indicates that a bad track record has been an issue for more than one year.

The next area we analyzed was long-term care. This nursing home was given an abysmal grade of F in that category. Long-term care grades in this range generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids, as well as the levels of routine medical care available. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. As it turns out, this nursing home provided the vaccine to just 77.4359 percent of its patients, which is quite a bit lower than we expected. To our surprise, this place actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had just 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This was its best feature in this category.
