Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

On top of earning a great overall grade, this facility really excelled in the category of nursing, where it received an A+. We analyzed the qualifications of nurses working for the facility, as well as the quantity of time the nurses spent with patients, in determining our score in this category. This facility provided 0.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Turning to an additional strength for this facility, we gave it a high-end long-term care score. In fact, we gave this nursing home a grade of A. Facilities that receive this type of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure patients are well cared for. Once we concluded our assessment of the volume of nursing care, we then looked at the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 90.5624 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

This facility also was given an impressive score in our short-term care category. We awarded this facility a better than average grade of B in that category. In determining these short-term care scores, we quantify the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our goal is to formulate a barometer for comparing the rehabilitation services of various nursing homes. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. However, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 2.3 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: F

Moving on our last category of inspections, this nursing home received a horrible grade. Unfortunately, with an F in the inspection category, this facility's overall grade was adversely affected. We would advise paying close attention to any deficiencies on a facility's inspection reports when it receives this poor of an inspection score. We would pay close attention to the severity of the deficiencies. This facility was assessed 6 deficiencies by CMS. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they posed a threat to patient safety or health. Lastly, we need to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home was assessed significant government fines recently of more than $100,000. This generally signifies that a facility's poor performance spanned several years.
