This facility earned an elite short-term care grade. In fact, we gave this nursing home an A- in this area, which really helped its overall grade. In calculating our short-term care grades, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to devise a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. When we looked at this facility's physical therapist hours, we found it offered more hours of physical therapy per day to its residents than most nursing homes. The last statistic we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in California in this area with 66.7 percent of its residents returning home. For most facilities, fewer than half of their short-term residents are able to return home.

This facility's second best category was its nursing grade, where it received a grade of B-. We weighed the qualifications of nurses employed by the nursing home, as well as the quantity of time those nurses spent with residents, in determining our grade in this area. According to its CMS data, this nursing home provided an average of 3.9 hours of nursing care per resident daily, which was above average. Lastly, we also weighed some quality-based assessments. This facility performed well in some of the quality measures we looked at. In terms of the number of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, this nursing home beat the national average.

Historical

The third most favorable category we gave this facility in any category came in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a B-. For prospective residents looking for a permanent place to live as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are a key measure. One of the factors we considered on top of nurse's aid hours was vaccines. Thankfully, this nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its residents. The last datapoint we assessed is the nursing home's hospitalization rate. Although it had 2.12 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic was not too bad.

Historical

Turning the last category of government inspections, we gave this nursing home a score of C for this category. We would argue that one of the most important factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. We especially look at the severity of those deficiencies. This nursing home was hit with 8 deficiencies on its government inspection report, but we were relieved to find that none were in any of the categories labeled G through L. This means that this facility dodged the more serious classes of deficiencies. We didn't find anything on this nursing home's inspection reports to be overly concerning.
