On top of performing well in its overall grade, this facility received even higher grades in our short-term care rating. In fact, it received one of our highest grades in that category with A. In forming our short-term care scores, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our purpose is to create a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last measure we considered in this category is the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 6.1 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

This facility also performed well in the area of inspections. It received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with an A-. Few nursing homes with an overall score in this range performed this well in multiple categories. Our inspection grades are tied to many pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent government inspections. Facilities that score well in this category tend to have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. While this facility had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. We should note that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.

Adding to this nursing home's list of strengths, it also received an excellent nursing grade. We awarded them an impressive grade of A- in this category. Nursing grades are based largely on nurse staffing levels. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Moving on to our fourth area, this nursing home did not perform very well. With an abysmal grade of F in this area, this is obviously this nursing home's worst area. When facilities receive a grade in this range in this category it generally means the nursing home did not perform well in our measures relating to resident care. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We discovered that this nursing home gave the vaccine to only 90.32258 percent of its patients, which is quite a bit lower than we expected. To our surprise, this facility actually fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.
