Facility Inspections
In addition to being a great overall grade, this facility also received A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually flawless. Arguably the most important factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this area typically dodged the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This nursing home was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This means that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to be an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also received an A+ long-term care grade, rendering it one of the few nursing homes to be given more than one A+ category scores. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 94.27481 percent of its residents, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia is often a deadly health condition for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home does not leave this to chance. The last datapoint we looked at is the nursing home's hospitalization rate. We found that this facility had 2.29 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A. We analyzed the levels of nurses working for the nursing home, as well as the quantity of hours those nurses spent with residents, in computing our score in this area. This facility provides an incredible 4.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is much better than what is offered by most places. Lastly, this nursing home also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we assessed. By way of illustration, in terms of the number of its patients sustaining falls which lead to serious injury, this facility performed as well as any nursing home in the country. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we looked at is short-term care. This nursing home was awarded a better than average short-term care score in our assessment, with a C. While this isn't as strong as several of its other category grades, this remains a decent rating in that category. Short-term care grades are often employed to measure a facility's performance with rehabilitation. To offer highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally must provide higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other highly skilled individuals. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last datapoint we assessed in this category is the percentage of residents who returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 23.2 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
