Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a first rate nursing home overall, this facility performed well in the area of inspections, where it earned a grade of A+. Few facilities performed as well in this category. Inspection grades are based on many items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this area tend to have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This facility was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered to be severe. This tells you that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies to be an immediate threat to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Adding to its first-rate profile, this facility also excelled in our long-term care category. In fact, we awarded it a score of A for the area. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. In addition to looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 77.61905 percent of its patients, which is a bit less than we were hoping for. Although its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we had hoped, at least this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility received a very good nursing grade this year as well. It received one of our better scores in that category with a grade of B+. In computing our nursing scores, we assess both the number of hours nurses spend with residents and the skill levels of those nurses. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of turning residents at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

The last area we assessed was this nursing home's weakest area. However, even its worst category would actually be a strength for many facilities. In fact, we gave it a favorable grade of B for short-term care. In determining these short-term care grades, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to create a tool for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final statistic we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5.3 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
