Facility Inspections
We want to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home outperformed its overall score in the category of inspections. In fact, it received an excellent government inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in that category with an A-. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection ratings. One key factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these are relatively insignificant. While this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' scale. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in the industry.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility's long-term care score appears to be one of its higher scores. The facility was awarded a grade of B- in this category. In our long-term care grade, we look at the volume of services provided by a facility, as well as a series of quality datapoints. Once we finished looking at the amount of care provided by nurses, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. We were a bit concerned this facility vaccinated only 77.09251 percent of its residents against pneumonia. Nevertheless, this place keeps its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Short-term Care Quality
This facilities third best area was short-term care. We awarded it a grade of B- in this category. This is basically a middle of the road score in this category. Our short-term care grades are arguably most important for individuals needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation usually utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing services. This means not only nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. The final datapoint we assessed in this category is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. This place was above average in this metric with 52.6 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
The final category we scored was nursing. We gave this facility a B- in this area. We assessed the qualifications of nurses working for the facility, in addition to the quantity of hours the nurses spent with patients, in calculating our grade in this category. This nursing home provided just 3.1 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This is a relatively low total compared with most other facilities. Finally, we like to look at quality-based metrics, such as the percentage of residents who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. Sometimes these data points are indicators of the quality of nursing care.
