On top of being a great nursing home overall, it also earned A+ health inspections in recent years. Its inspections were virtually perfect. Inspection scores are tied to several datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that score well in this area tend to have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
We also awarded this facility a grade of A+ for its short-term care grade. In the area of short-term care, we endeavor to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. This nursing home excelled at the highest level in two key staffing areas we looked at. In fact, it offered about 50% more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the average nursing home. This is typically an excellent sign. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of nursing homes in this area with 61.5 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also was given an A+ for its long-term care score. For prospective residents looking for a permanent residence rather than rehabilitation, long-term care grades are an important measure. One of the factors we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccines. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that this facility provided information on its vaccination levels. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Nurse Quality
In the last category we rated, this facility was given a very favorable grade of A in our nursing category. With this grade, the nursing home topped off a straight A profile. Our nursing grade weighs many data points, many of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. This place provided 7.1 hours of nursing care per resident daily, which is among the highest totals in the country. A significant portion of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the more skilled levels of nurses. We were very impressed by these statistics. In addition to offering high levels of nursing care, this place also excelled in the quality measures we looked at. By way of illustration, it performed as well as any nursing home in Tennessee when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these areas as good indicators of the quality of nursing care being provided.
