Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

While this facility's overall grade was decent, it really fared well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A+ for that category, which is one of our best scores. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection ratings. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some are relatively insignificant. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Additionally, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B+ in our long-term care category. This is one of our more impressive grades. For prospective patients seeking a permanent residence as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are an important measure. On top of considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 93.42105 percent of its residents, which is a few points below what we anticipated. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

Another strength of this nursing home is its favorable grade in nursing. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with an D. Our nursing rating assesses the facility's nurse staffing levels. We look at both the levels of licensure of those nurses and the quantity of hours spent with patients. This nursing home averaged only 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing ratings. This facility performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these statistics to be measures of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The final area we analyzed was short-term care, which is this facility's least impressive area. It received a lowly F for this area, which is clearly a major disappointment. Short-term care ratings are meaningful for residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates more skilled nursing services. This includes a broad range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. It looks like this place was subpar in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its residents based on the staffing figures we looked at. The last item we considered in this category is the number of residents that returned home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 3.4 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below average.
