Facility Inspections
In addition to receiving a strong overall score, this facility also received excellent inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our best scores in that category, with an A. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility also was superb in the category of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of A-. Very few facilities received a better grade in this category. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in this category it generally means it's well-staffed and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 99.32886 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia is often a life or death health condition for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home doesn't take any chances. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality
Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A-. Our nursing rating assesses the facility's level of nurse staffing. We weigh both the levels of training of those nurses as well as the amount of time spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by having a protocol of turning a resident even once per day.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we analyzed is this nursing home's worst area. Nevertheless, even its weakest link would likely be a strength for most nursing homes. In fact, we gave it a favorable grade of B for our short-term care category. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We assess the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final measure we considered in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We found that 4.4 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
