In addition to receiving an elite overall rating, this facility also earned an A+ inspection rating. This grade is based on the facility's recent inspection reports. An A+ in this area is one of the highest complements we can offer a facility. These inspection scores take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

One of the other reasons we graded this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing score. In that category, we awarded this facility an A. Nursing ratings are based in large part on nurse staffing levels. This nursing home provided 4.6 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This is an impressive figure which typically correlates with quality care. Finally, this place also excelled in the quality measures we looked at. It performed as well as any facility the state in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.

Turning our next area, this facility was awarded an excellent long-term care grade. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A in that category. Facilities that receive this type of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent around the clock care to make sure residents are kept in good health. One of the statistics we considered in addition to this facility's quality nursing hours is vaccinations. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its residents. Vaccines are a great way to avoid unnecessary deaths for seniors. This combination proved to be effective as this facility also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Switching gears to the next category, this facility was given an acceptable short-term care score. While this isn't quite as elite as many of its other category grades, this is really nothing to be ashamed of. In the area of short-term care, we strive to evaluate indicators of a facility's rehabilitation services. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. The final measure we assessed in this area is the number of patients who ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that just 25.6 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. Unfortunately, this was below the national average.
