To pair with its favorable overall score, we gave this facility an A+ for our inspections rating. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this area most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Adding to its strong resume, this facility also received an excellent nursing score, with a grade of A-. Nursing ratings are mostly based on a facility's nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Contributing to its strong profile, this facility also was awarded a strong long-term care score, with a score of A-. When nursing homes receive a grade in this range in long-term care it generally means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to reside on a permanent basis. In addition to considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 99.82238 percent of its patients, which is far higher than the majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

The next category we looked at was short-term care, in which this nursing home was given a grade of C. While this turned out to be its lowest category grade, this is still not a bad grade. Short-term care grades are critical for patients needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes higher levels of highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a vast scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final measure we assessed in this area is the number of patients that ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that just 2.2 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. This figure was below average.
