On top of being a quality nursing home overall, this nursing home really excelled in nursing, where it received a grade of A. There are many factors within this area. Most of the factors relate to staffing levels. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

This nursing home also excelled in inspections. In fact, we gave it an A- for that category. These inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. Fortunately, although this place had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in this industry.

Turning to another strength for this nursing home, we awarded them one of our stronger grades in our short-term care category as well, with a B+. In determining these short-term care grades, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our objective is to devise a scale for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final datapoint we looked at in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We found that 4.9 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

The next category we assessed was long-term care, which turned out to be this facility's weakest area. We gave this facility a grade of D in that area. Nevertheless, we would not assess this nursing home solely on this category, since it earned a few high-end grades in other areas. In a long-term care environment, the primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. After considering the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination records. We were pleased to find that this facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Surprisingly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
