Facility Inspections
Although we didn't grade this nursing home favorably overall, we did give it an excellent score in the area of inspections, where it received an A-. Arguably the most important factor we consider in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. It is typically best to avoid nursing homes that have too many severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
We also awarded this nursing home a strong grade in long-term care. This facility received a grade of B in this category, which turns out to be one of our higher grades. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both 24/7 care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. After looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 92.8934 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which happens to be somewhat lower than we expected but still a decent figure. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Nurse Quality
Unfortunately, this facility only received a grade of D for its nursing grade, which was actually one of its better category grades. In determining our nursing scores, we factor in both staffing levels and the skill levels of the nurses. With a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day, this facility's nurse staffing levels were quite a bit below the national average. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing scores. This nursing home fared well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these statistics to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
The last category we assessed was short-term care, where this nursing home received a poor grade in this category as well. We gave it an abysmal F for this category, which is definitely a major disappointment. Our short-term care scores are arguably more important for individuals in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally mandates additional skilled nursing. This means not just nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Based on its score in this category, we were not stunned to learn that this facility was well below average in terms of its number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its patients based on the measures we assessed. Lastly, we considered the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. This wasn't a strength for this nursing home. We found that just 5.1 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, around half of their patients are able to return home so this is well below average.
