Facility Inspections
While this nursing home's overall grade was decent, it really excelled in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our best scores. These inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This nursing home was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This tells you that CMS didn't consider any of these deficiencies to pose an immediate risk to resident health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's long-term care rating is one of its better grades. The nursing home was given a B- in this area. For long-term care residents, the primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. Thankfully, this nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is a very respectable figure. Unfortunately, its hospitalization rate was not quite as favorable. We found that this place had 2.63 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home's nursing grade appears to be one of its better features. The facility received a grade of C in this category. Our nursing grade analyzes several datapoints, many of which are associated with levels of nurse staffing. This facility provides 2.8 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This is a lower figure than we were hoping for. Lastly, despite not having the highest total nursing hours, this nursing home performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is generally a good indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we assessed was short-term care, proved to be this facility's least impressive category. We gave this nursing home a grade of D in that category. Our short-term care ratings are important for prospective residents seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires higher levels of skilled nursing services. This includes a wide scope of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Based on its score in this area, we weren't stunned to discover that this facility is well below average in terms of the number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its patients based on the metrics we assessed. Honestly, this was what we expected to find. Finally, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 26.7 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
