Facility Inspections
In addition to having a decent overall score, we also would like to point out that this nursing home earned favorable government inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our better scores in this category, with a B+. This is a much better score than the facility's overall grade. These inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This facility received 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This means that CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies to be an immediate threat to resident health or safety. A couple of minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.
Short-term Care Quality
Another one of this facility's better category scores came in the area of short-term care. In that area, we gave this facility a B. It actually outperformed most facilities in this area. Short-term care grades are typically employed to gauge a nursing home's rehabilitation services. To offer highly graded rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to have better levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. We weren't able to locate information about this nursing home's registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. The final metric we assessed in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that 5.5 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home's next best category turned out to be long-term care. In that area, we awarded this facility a C. Long-term care grades are used to score a facility's performance as a traditional convalescent home, as opposed to focusing more on the skilled nursing services offered by a skilled nursing facility. After we finished assessing the quantity of nursing care, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. We were pleased to discover that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Lastly, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
Nurse Quality
The next area we scored was nursing. Sadly, it received a lowly F in this area, which is a very poor grade. This is certainly a major disappointment. Our nursing grade assesses the facility's nurse staffing levels. We consider both the levels of skill of those nurses and the amount of time spent with patients. This place provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. This place also had terrible marks in several of the quality-based measures to go along with its low nursing hours. For starters, we looked at the percentage of patients sustaining pressure ulcers. This nursing home was at more than twice the national average in this statistic. This is alarming when you consider that many pressure ulcers are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. This ended up sealing the facility's fate of earning a weak nursing score.
