In addition to being a first rate facility overall, this nursing home also excelled in our short-term care rating, where it earned an A. Few nursing homes fared better in this category. Our short-term care ratings are probably more important for people needing rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation typically utilizes additional skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other types of therapy. This nursing home provided more physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most facilities. This is what we like to find when assessing a nursing home in this category. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents that ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. On top of excelling in the area of physical therapy hours, we found that it performed as well as just about any facility in the nation with 63 percent of its patients returning home. Most nursing homes are below 50 percent in this statistic.

Adding to this facility's impressive resume, we awarded this nursing home an A- for inspections. Our inspection grades weigh several factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with higher grades in this area usually have few severe deficiencies. This facility was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered severe. This indicates that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies to be an immediate threat to resident safety or health. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

Adding to its profile, this facility also earned a grade of B+ for its nursing rating. This is a well above average score in this category. Our nursing score analyzes a handful of subcategories, many of which are based on levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided 4.8 hours of nursing care per patient per day, which was among the better figures we found. Lastly, this nursing home also performed well in several of the quality-based metrics we looked at. In terms of the percentage of its patients sustaining falls leading to serious injury, this facility performed as well as any nursing home in Nevada.

In the last area, this nursing home also received a first-rate long-term care rating, with a grade of B+. This topped off a first-rate profile. Facilities that excel in this category typically are well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. In addition to offering well above average levels of nursing care and other staffing, this nursing home gave the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. This figure is also far better than the average nursing home. The last datapoint we assessed is its hospitalization rate. While it had 4.18 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted metric was middle of the road since it had some more complicated patients.
