Facility Inspections
On top of performing well overall, this nursing home also earned nearly flawless government inspections. As a result, it earned one of our highest grades in that category with an A+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection grades. One key factor is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some end up being relatively minor. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Additionally, this facility also received favorable long-term care grades in our assessment. Indeed, we awarded them one of our more favorable scores in that category, with a grade of B+. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. On top of considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 95.959595 percent of its residents, which is more than the average nursing home. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality
The third category we analyzed was short-term care. This facility was awarded an impressive short-term care score, with a B+ in the area. Short-term care grades are generally used to judge a facility's rehabilitation services To offer highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to have higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly trained professionals. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final item we considered in this area is the percentage of residents that eventually returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5.7 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
Nurse Quality
The last area we rated is this nursing home's poorest category. Nevertheless, even its weakest link would actually be a highlight for most facilities. We gave it a strong grade of B for nursing. Our nursing score is primarily associated with the nursing home's nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these data points as reliable indicators of the caliber of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
