Short-term Care Quality
On top of receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home received an A+ in the category of short-term care. Our short-term care grades are vital for residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates additional highly-skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means a broad spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. This nursing home is substantially above the national average in terms of its quantity of both physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents. In fact, it provided about 50% more care per resident from both of these care providers than the average facility provided. These are generally good indicators of quality short-term care. Lastly, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the vast majority of facilities in the nation with 66.4 percent of its patients returning home. This is a significantly higher rate than most facilities.
Facility Inspections
Adding to this facility's impressive resume, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the government inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple relatively minor dings are not necessarily something to panic about.
Nurse Quality
Among its many impressive grades, this facility received an excellent nursing grade. In fact, we gave it a grade of A- in that category. Nursing scores are based in large part on nurse staffing levels. This nursing home boasts a really impressive 6.9 hours of nursing care per patient per day, of which a significant portion was provided by registered nurses. This is one of the most highly highly trained levels of nurses. On top of offering impressive levels of nursing care, this nursing home also performed well in several of the quality measures we assessed. For example, in terms of the number of its patients suffering falls leading to serious injury, this nursing home performed as well as any nursing home the country. Preventing serious falls is generally a good indicator that a nursing home has quality controls in place. Major falls can often be prevented if more nurses and better safety protocols are in place.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we graded is long-term care, in which this nursing home was awarded a grade of B-. Although this turned out to be its worst category rating, this is nevertheless a middle of the pack score. In crafting these long-term care grades, we analyze the nursing home's personal care services. In addition to impressive nursing hour statistics, this nursing home's vaccination records are favorable as well. Indeed, it vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia. This combination proved to be effective as this place also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
