Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

Although we were not high on this place overall, we awarded it a grade of B+ for our inspections rating. This grade is much more impressive than the place's overall grade. Inspection grades are based on items located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important thing to look for on these reports. You should especially avoid nursing homes with severe deficiencies linked to endangerment of patients. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

We also awarded this facility a middle of the pack grade in the category of long-term care, where it received a grade of B-. In calculating our long-term care ratings, we look at the assistance with daily living offered to a facility's residents. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is more than most nursing homes. Finally, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

We awarded this nursing home a grade of just D for our short-term care grade. This is not an impressive grade. Our short-term care scores are crucial for individuals needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. This includes a vast spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Not surprisingly, we found that this facility provides significantly less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than a typical facility. The final item we considered in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.7 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor metrics doomed this nursing home's short-term care grade.

Nurse Quality

Grade: F

The next category we looked at was nursing, where this nursing home received a rock bottom score in this category as well. It received an abysmal F for this area, which is obviously very concerning. Our nursing grade considers a number of factors. The most important one is the number of hours nurses spend with patients. With a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily, this nursing home's nurse staffing levels were significantly below average. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing scores. This place fared well in terms of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.
