The main reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it received an elite inspection score. In fact, its inspection grade was far better than its overall score. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

This nursing home also performed well in the category of long-term care, with an elite score of A- in this category. When nursing homes receive this kind of score in this category it is usually a good sign for patient care and indicates that the facility is well-staffed with nurses aids. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents, which is far higher than the average nursing home. Lastly, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

This facility received a very good nursing rating this year as well. It earned one of our higher grades in that area with a grade of F. In determining a facility's nursing grade, we look at the number of hours nurses are caring for patients as well as the skill levels of those nurses.
