Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To pair with a strong overall score, we awarded this facility an A+ for our inspection category. Arguably the most critical factor we consider in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Facilities with higher grades in this category typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Amazingly, this was one of the few nursing homes in the country that had no deficiencies whatsoever on its inspection report. This is very impressive. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

This facility also was given an A+ short-term care grade, rendering it one of the few nursing homes to be awarded several A+ category grades. Our short-term care grades are critical for prospective residents needing rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally utilizes more highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means a broad range of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final statistic we assessed in this area is the number of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that 6.1 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

We also wanted to draw your attention to the fact that this nursing home was awarded an impressive grade of A in our long-term care category. When facilities receive this type of score in long-term care it is a good sign for resident care and indicates that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. Once we concluded our assessment of the amount of nursing care, we turned to the facility's vaccination record. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia sadly can be a deadly condition for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home does not leave this to chance. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

In the last area, this nursing home also was given a very strong nursing rating, with a grade of A-. This completed a first-rate report card. In determining a nursing home's nursing score, we consider the quantity of hours nurses are seeing residents and the level of licensure of those nurses. This facility provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also factored a few quality measures into our nursing grades. This facility was relatively weak in two of the major areas we focus on, with below average scores for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These areas are generally reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care provided.
