Facility Inspections
Although we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it earned a fairly impressive inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our more favorable scores in that area with a grade of B+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the quantity of deficiencies, as some can be quite insignificant. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
In our next category, we gave this nursing home an F in the category of long-term care. Facilities that do not fare well in this category typically are not as well-staffed and are lagging in some of the areas of routine healthcare services we assessed. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. Frankly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility gave the vaccine to just 77.259476 percent of its residents. To our surprise, this place was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.

Short-term Care Quality
This facility wound up receiving a a terrible grade in our short-term care area. It was given a lowly F in this category. In the area of short-term care, we seek to assess indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. With a score this poor in this area, we weren't surprised to learn this facility was well below average in several staffing metrics we assess. The facility supplied substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other nursing homes. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 4.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.
Nurse Quality
The next category we graded is nursing, where this nursing home was given a poor score in this category also. We gave it an abysmal F for this area, which is definitely somewhat alarming. The nursing rating weighs a handful of data points, most of which are associated with quantities of nurse staffing. This place offered a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is well below average. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this place also did not fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of residents experiencing major falls and pressure ulcers. This nursing home had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average facility. This may be a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. These statistics pulled down this nursing home's nursing rating quite a bit.
