Even though we graded this nursing home incredibly poorly overall, it received a decent short-term care score this year. We gave it a grade of C in that area. In our short-term care score, we attempt to create a meaningful measure for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we look at a nursing home's offerings of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities. The tricky part is determining what effect this had on the quality of care. The last metric we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who returned home from the facility. We found that just 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Many consider these statistics to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

We wanted to point out that this facility received an F for its inspection score. An F in this area is alarming because it usually points to red flags on the facility's inspections. For nursing homes that received this bad of an inspection grade, we recommend scrutinizing any severe deficiencies on its inspection report. This nursing home was assessed 5 deficiencies by CMS. The only positive thing we can say is that none of these deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they caused a risk to patient safety or health. The last category we assessed is long-term care. This facility received a rock bottom grade of F in that category. Facilities that receive this kind of score in long-term care may not provide the type of consistent 24/7 care that some other nursing homes provide. One of the data points we considered in addition to nursing hours is vaccines. Frankly, we were a bit alarmed this facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to a relatively low 85.47486 percent of its patients. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This is its best feature in this category.
