While this facility's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually didn't perform terribly in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a B- for that category, which is one of our better scores. Inspection scores weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility was cited by CMS for possible abuse or neglect. We would not recommend this facility under any circumstance.

After we finished looking at the quantity of nursing care, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination records. Candidly, we were a bit bothered by the fact that this facility vaccinated just 85.34279 percent of its residents against pneumonia. On a more positive note, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.04 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

We were surprised to find that this facility also excelled in the category of nursing. We awarded it an impressive grade of D for that category, which is one of our best grades. Nursing grades are tied to quantity of nursing care available. This particular facility offered a meager 0.2 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This figure is significantly below the national average. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in computing our nursing ratings. This facility fared well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. We consider these statistics to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

The next area we scored was short-term care. This facility was given a poor grade of F in that area. In calculating our short-term care scores, we assess the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our goal is to formulate a tool for comparing the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Given its weak score in this category, we weren't surprised to learn that this facility offers significantly fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than most other nursing homes. The final statistic we looked at in this category is the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from the facility. This facility struggled quite a bit in this metric as well, with just 4.5 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was quite a bit below average.
