Facility Inspections
On top of receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home performed even better in our inspections category which is associated with the nursing home's recent government inspection reports. In fact, we awarded it an A for this category, which is one of our highest scores. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher scores in this category typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Although this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its profile, this facility also earned a grade of B+ for its nursing rating. This is a well above average score in this category. Nursing scores are primarily based on a nursing home's nurse staffing. This facility provides an incredible 4.1 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is far better than what is provided by most nursing homes. Finally, this nursing home was also above average in each of the major quality measures we looked at in this category. It performed well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Long-term Care Quality
This facilities third best area is long-term care. We gave it a grade of B- in this area. This is essentially a middle of the road score in this area. Our long-term care grade assesses a facility's assistance with daily living rather than the highly skilled therapy and healthcare services that are critical to a skilled nursing facility. In addition to considering the impressive level of care provided by aids and other staff at this nursing home, we also were happy with the facility's vaccination record. For example, this nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 99.324326 percent of its patients, which is an impressive total. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. While it had 2.42 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic was better than most nursing homes since it had some more complicated patients.
Short-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the fourth category, this facility received a grade of C in short-term care, which is a decent rating. With our short-term care rating, we endeavor to forge a sound gauge for rehabilitation. In this process, we analyze a facility's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, this nursing home offers both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities offer both. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that 25.6 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.
