While this nursing home's overall grade was as bad as it gets, it actually really excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we gave it an A for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Arguably the most important factor we look at in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. It is generally in your best interest to avoid facilities that had a long list of severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even with this deficiency, this place still received a relatively favorable report.

In addition, we gave this facility an F in the area of short-term care. Our short-term care grades are critical for individuals requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually mandates higher levels of skilled nursing services. This means a vast range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. With its grade in this area, we weren't surprised to discover that this place was well below average in terms of the number of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the data we assessed. Lastly, we considered the percentage of residents who were able to return home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 29.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Our next category we analyzed is long-term care, in which this facility was given an F. When facilities receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means the nursing home didn't perform well in our measures relating to resident care. Once we concluded our assessment of the amount of nursing care, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination statistics. Frankly, we were a bit worried that this facility vaccinated only 90.52631 percent of its residents against pneumonia. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually decent at limiting hospitalizations. While it had 2.19 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic wasn't as bad due to it having some more complicated patients. This is its best score in this category

The next category we assessed is nursing, where this nursing home received a poor grade in this category as well. Unfortunately, we gave it an abysmal F for this area, which is obviously a major concern. When computing a nursing home's nursing rating, we consider the number of hours nurses spend with patients and the skill levels of the nurses. With just 1.7 hours of nursing care per resident daily, this facility's nurse staffing levels were significantly below average. To pair with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this place also did not perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in calculating our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and major falls. This nursing home had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average nursing home. This could be a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. These scores hurt this facility's nursing grade significantly.
