Facility Inspections
In addition to faring well overall, this facility received nearly flawless government inspections. Consequently, it earned one of our best scores in that area with an A+. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in determining these inspection scores. One critical factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies can be relatively insignificant. Although this place had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
On the list of its many impressive scores, this facility was given a top-shelf long-term care grade. In fact, it received a score of A- in this category. For long-term care residents, the primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. One of the datapoints we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccinations. This nursing home administered the pneumonia vaccine to 88.08664 percent of its patients. While its vaccination rate was a bit lower than we like to see, at least this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Nurse Quality
Another strong feature for this facility is that it received an impressive nursing grade. In that area, we awarded this facility a grade of B. Our nursing score is based on numerous datapoints. The most important variable is the quantity of hours nurses spent with residents. This particular nursing home provided 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a system of moving a patient more often.
Short-term Care Quality
The next area we scored was short-term care. In this category, we awarded this nursing home an above average grade of B. Our short-term care scores are arguably most critical for residents in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally requires additional highly-skilled nursing. This includes not merely nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final measure we assessed in this area is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return home. We discovered that 4.6 percent of this facility's patients returned home.
