Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
Although we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable nursing score this year. We gave it a B- in this area. When determining a nursing home's nursing grade, we consider the amount of time nurses commit to residents and the levels of training of the nurses. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place actually excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. It performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
Surprisingly, we gave this nursing home a B- for its short-term care score, which isn't a bad grade. In crafting our short-term care ratings, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our purpose is to create a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. We found that this nursing home was below average in the two key staffing areas we focus on. It offered fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. It is still important to determine whether this also correlates to a lower quality of care. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 4.3 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.

Long-term Care Quality
We were also pleasantly surprised to learn that this nursing home received a decent long-term care rating in our assessment. We gave it a grade of C in that category. For prospective patients looking for a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the facility's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Finally, this facility was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Facility Inspections
In our last category of inspections, this facility received a terrible score. When a place has this bad of an inspection score, you should expect some severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to patient safety. This facility had 8 deficiencies on its inspection report. The only favorable thing we can say is that none of its deficiencies were in the categories that suggest they caused a threat to resident safety or health. Finally, CMS cited this nursing home for possible abuse or neglect. Hopefully, its performance improves in the future, but until then we simply can't recommend this facility.
