Facility Inspections
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable inspection report this year. As a result, it received a decent grade in that category with a score of B-. Inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this facility had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G through L. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to the category of long-term care, this facility received just a D in this category. Unfortunately, this proved to be one of its better features. Long-term care ratings in this range generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids, as well as the levels of routine medical care available. After looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 92.58064 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is somewhat lower than we expected but still a reasonably acceptable percentage. Lastly, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. We found that this nursing home fared poorly with 2.89 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, this statistic is nearly double the national average.
Short-term Care Quality
Sadly, we gave this facility an F for its short-term care score. Our short-term care grade is typically employed to grade a nursing home's rehabilitation services In order to offer highly rated rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to provide higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other types of therapists. Based on its poor score in this category, we were not shocked to find that this place provided significantly fewer registered nurse hours per patient than most other nursing homes. The last metric we considered in this category is the number of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area, with just 36.5 percent of its residents returning home. Unfortunately, this was well below the national average.
Nurse Quality
The final area we rated is nursing. Unfortunately, we gave it a lowly F in this category, which is a rock bottom grade. Our nursing score is based on several subcategories, most of which are tied to quantities of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 1.9 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also looked at some quality measures in determining our nursing ratings. This facility was above average in two of the statistics we considered, with good marks for minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. These areas are often good measures of the quality of nursing care offered.
