Nurse Quality
One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ nursing grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. When determining a facility's nursing score, we weigh the quantity of hours nurses commit to patients as well as the skill levels of those nurses. This place provided 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Approximately a quarter of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most skilled levels of nurses. This is an impressive ratio of skilled nursing care. We weight these hours performed by these types of nurses more in computing our nursing grades. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Facility Inspections
The next category we looked at was inspections, where this facility also received an A+ grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Facilities with higher scores in this area most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. Fortunately, although this facility had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This tells you the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
In the third area we analyzed, this nursing home received strong marks in the area of long-term care. For this reason, it was given one of our most impressive scores in that category with a of A+. Facilities that do well in long-term care tend to provide residents with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. Once we looked at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the facility's vaccination record. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Vaccines are critical to keeping residents healthy. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With just 1.56 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than many nursing homes.
Short-term Care Quality
In the final category we looked at, this nursing home was given a very strong grade of A in our short-term care category. With this score, the nursing home wrapped up a straight A report card. Our short-term care ratings are likely more critical for individuals requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually mandates more skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not merely nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. One reason for this facility's strong score in this category is that it provides more care with registered nurses to its residents than the average nursing home. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
