Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

While we did not rate this nursing home favorably overall, we want to point out its relatively favorable health inspections in recent years. We gave it a B+ in this category, which was much better than its overall score. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection grades. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being quite insignificant. This nursing home was hit with 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered severe. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to create an immediate risk to resident safety or health. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home actually received a decent grade in the area of nursing as well. We awarded it a grade of B- for that category, which is not a bad score. Nursing grades are mostly tied to the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This figure is significantly below the national average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place surprisingly excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we looked at. It performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care. In many cases, the quality of nursing care is every bit as important as the quantity of hours of care provided.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

We gave this facility a grade of just D for our short-term care grade. This is not a score to write home about. Short-term care grades are typically employed to assess a facility's performance with rehabilitation In order to provide highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to offer higher levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. Given its abysmal grade in this area, we were not stunned to learn this place offered substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most nursing homes. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The last category we looked at was long-term care, which is a weak link for this nursing home. We gave this nursing home a grade of D in our long-term care category. Facilities that receive this type of score in this category likely don't provide the type of consistent 24/7 care that some other nursing homes offer. One of the data points we considered on top of nursing hours is vaccines. Frankly, we were a bit worried that this facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to just 59.12409 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This is its best feature in this category.
