Registered Staff Hours
While we did not have many favorable things to say about this facility's overall grade, it did receive a respectable nursing grade of B-. The nursing grade consists of many datapoints, but the primary consideration is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This figure is significantly below average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this facility excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In fact, it performed well when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Short-term Care Quality
We also awarded this facility a middle of the pack score in the category of short-term care, where we gave it a grade of B-. Our short-term care grade is typically employed to score a facility's rehabilitation services. In order to offer highly scored rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to have better levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. In this place's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than the average facility. Finally, we looked at the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their residents are able to return home so this figure is below average.

We also awarded this nursing home a grade of B- for our inspections rating. This score is a more impressive than the facility's overall grade. We would argue that one of the most critical factors in evaluating an inspection report is deficiencies. In this regard, we especially look at the severity of those deficiencies. This place was hit with 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe deficiencies. This means that CMS did not consider any of these deficiencies to create an imminent risk to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies are not necessarily the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we assessed is long-term care. It received an F in this area, which is a poor score. Nursing homes that do not fare well in long-term care often do not provide as much nursing care and also may be lagging in a few of the areas of routine healthcare services we assessed. In addition to assessing the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 75.78125 percent of its residents. This is multiple points below what we were hoping for. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This was its best feature in this category.
